Alaska - The Journey Begins

In April 2015, my family and I reach a major decision. We will sell our home in Eagle River, Alaska, buy a travel trailer and drive through North America. Our to-do-list is long. Within a week, we have the house on the market, which is hot - 16 days later, the house is sold. There is no going back at this point, although even before signing the last documents at the title company we are wondering if we are choosing right.
The goals of this gap-year are plenty:
  • give Jason (my husband) time after 20 successful years in the military to reconnect with the kids and me - spend time as a family!
  • introduce America to our children and show them their amazing home country and how manifold it is
  • figure out how we can minimalize and get rid of stuff we don't need
  • learn more about a sustainable agriculture and lifestyle by WWOOFing (volunteering to work on organic farms around the nation)
  • connect to the Earth
  • figure out what we want to be when we grow up ;-)
Jason celebrates his retirement from the US Army on July 10, 2015 and we head out two days later. It is hard to say good-bye to family (they have been visiting for the celebrations) and friends in Alaska, but at least we don't leave this beautiful state quite yet. First we want to see some more of it... going South to Homer and the Kenai Peninsula... then North to Denali National Park.

So far, this is only a test blog - if you'd like to see our current travel status and don't want to wait for me to get my blog going, please visit www.facebook.com/roachlifetimeadventure
